About Polyquaternium-73
Polyquaternium-73 is a polymerized quaternary ammonium salt composed of propyltrimonium chloride acrylamide, ethyltrimonium chloride methacrylate, and dimethylacrylamide units.[1] The number 73 after Polyquaternium is only an identification number that distinguishes different Polyquaterniums; it does not indicate the content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static electricity in the hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static that causes hair strands to lift or stick together, form a thin film on the skin, hair, and nail surfaces after application, and reduce tangling and roughness to leave hair feeling smooth.[2] It is also used to hold the desired hairstyle in place.[2]
