About Polyquaternium-72

Polyquaternium-72 is a quaternary ammonium salt obtained by polymerizing an epoxide substituted with coco-alkyldimethylammonium and hydroxyethyl cellulose.[1] The number 72 after Polyquaternium is only an identification number distinguishing different Polyquaterniums; it does not indicate content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static that causes hair strands to lift or stick together, form a thin film on the surface of skin, hair, or nails after application, and hold the desired hair shape in place.[2]
