About Polyquaternium-58
Polyquaternium-58 is a quaternary ammonium salt obtained by polymerizing N,N-dimethyl-1,3-propanediamine quaternized with methyl 2-propenoate, 2,2-bis[(2-propenyloxy)methyl]-1-butanol, divinylbenzene, and chloromethane.[1] The number 58 after Polyquaternium is only an identifying number used to distinguish different polyquaterniums; it does not indicate the content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static electricity in the hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce tangling and rough feel, helping condition the hair smoothly.[2]
