About Polyquaternium-56
Polyquaternium-56 is a polymerized quaternary ammonium salt composed of isophorone diisocyanate, butylene glycol, and dihydroxyethyl dimonium methosulfate units.[1] The number 56 after Polyquaternium is only an identifying number used to distinguish different polyquaterniums; it does not indicate the content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to form a thin film on the skin, hair, and nail surfaces after application, and to reduce hair tangling and rough feel, helping hair look and feel smoothly arranged.[2]
