About Polyquaternium-54
Polyquaternium-54 is a polymerized quaternary ammonium salt obtained by reacting dimethylaminopropylamine and sodium chloroacetate with C6-18 alkylamine and aspartic acid.[1] The number 54 after Polyquaternium is only an identifying number that distinguishes different Polyquaterniums; it does not indicate the content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static that causes hair strands to lift or cling to one another, and to reduce hair tangling and rough feel, leaving hair smooth and neat.[2]
