About Polyquaternium-49
Polyquaternium-49 is a quaternary ammonium salt obtained by reacting Methacryloylethyl Betaine, PEG-9 Methacrylate, and Methacryloylethyl Trimethyl Ammonium Chloride.[1] The number 49 after Polyquaternium is only an identification number distinguishing different polyquaterniums; it does not indicate the content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static electricity in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static electricity that causes hair strands to lift or stick together, to form a thin film on the skin, hair, or nail surface after application, and to hold the desired hairstyle in place.[2]
