About Polyquaternium-47

Polyquaternium-47 is a polymerized quaternary ammonium chloride obtained by reacting acrylic acid, methyl acrylate, and methacrylamidopropyltrimonium chloride.[1] The number 47 after Polyquaternium is only an identification number distinguishing different polyquaterniums; it does not indicate content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static electricity in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to form a thin film on the surface of skin, hair, and nails after application, to hold a desired hairstyle in place, and to smooth and refine the skin's surface.[2]
