About Polyquaternium-4/Hydroxypropyl Starch Copolymer

Polyquaternium-4/Hydroxypropyl Starch Copolymer is a polymerized quaternary ammonium salt obtained by reacting Polyquaternium-4 with hydroxypropyl starch.[1] The number 4 after Polyquaternium is only an identifying number distinguishing different Polyquaterniums; it does not indicate the content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to form a thin film on the surface of skin, hair, and nails after application, and to reduce tangling and rough feel in hair for smoother grooming.[2]
