Polyquaternium-37 is a polymerized quaternary ammonium salt.[1] The number 37 after Polyquaternium is only an identification number distinguishing different Polyquaterniums; it does not indicate content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static electricity in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static electricity that can cause hair strands to lift or cling together and to form a thin film on the skin, hair, or nail surface after application.[2]
