About Polyquaternium-24
Polyquaternium-24 is a polymerized quaternary ammonium salt of hydroxyethylcellulose reacted with lauryldimethylammonium-substituted epoxide.[1] The number 24 after Polyquaternium is only an identification number distinguishing different polyquaterniums; it does not indicate content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static electricity in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static electricity that causes hair strands to lift or stick together and to form a thin film on the skin, hair, or nail surface after application.[2]
