About Polyquaternium-20

Polyquaternium-20 is a polymerized quaternary ammonium salt obtained by reacting polyvinyl octadecyl ether with 2,3-epoxypropylamine.[1] The number 20 after Polyquaternium is only an identifying number that distinguishes different Polyquaterniums; it does not indicate the content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static that causes hair strands to lift or cling to one another, and to form a thin film on the skin, hair, or nail surface after application.[2]
