About Polyquaternium-12

Polyquaternium-12 is a polymerized quaternary ammonium salt obtained by reacting dimethyl sulfate with a copolymer of ethyl methacrylate/abietyl methacrylate/diethylaminoethyl methacrylate.[1] The number 12 following Polyquaternium is only an identification number distinguishing different Polyquaterniums; it does not indicate the content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static that causes hair strands to lift or stick together and to form a thin film on the skin, hair, and nail surfaces after application.[2]
