About Polyacrylate-22

Polyacrylate-22 is an ingredient initially obtained as a complex polymer through the reaction of a copolymer of adipic acid and neopentyl glycol with isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI).[1] In cosmetics, it is used to form a thin film on the surface of skin, hair, or nails after application and to hold a desired hairstyle in place.[2] The isocyanate groups of the polymer react with hydroxyethyl methacrylate and are quenched with ethanol to remove residual urethane groups.[1] Finally, the polymer is copolymerized with acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, and methyl methacrylate and partially neutralized with aminomethyl propanol (AMP).[1]
