About Poloxamer 407
Poloxamer 407 is a polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene block polymer.[1] In the number 407, the first two digits indicate an approximate molecular weight of 4000 for the oil-affinitive middle section, while the last digit indicates that the water-affinitive section accounts for about 70%. Because the water-affinitive portion is relatively large, it disperses comparatively well in water-based formulas. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to reduce surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
