About Poloxamer 338

Poloxamer 338 is a block copolymer of polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene.[1] In the number 338, the first two digits indicate an approximate molecular weight of 3300 for the oil-loving middle portion, while the last digit indicates that the water-loving portion accounts for about 80%. Because the water-loving portion makes up a larger share, it disperses relatively well in aqueous formulations. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to reduce surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
