About Poloxamer 288
Poloxamer 288 is a polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene block copolymer.[1] In the Poloxamer number 288, the first two digits indicate an approximate molecular weight of 2800 for the oil-affinitive middle section, while the last digit indicates that the water-affinitive section accounts for approximately 80%; because the water-affinitive section is predominant, it spreads relatively well in aqueous formulas. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly blended, and to lower surface tension so raw materials can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
