About Poloxamer 231
Poloxamer 231 is a polyoxyethylene, polyoxypropylene block copolymer.[1] In the Poloxamer number 231, the first two digits indicate an approximate molecular weight of 2300 for the oil-attracting middle section, while the last digit indicates that the water-attracting portion accounts for about 10%; the oil-attracting middle section has a relatively greater influence. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
