About Poloxamer 184

Poloxamer 184 is a polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene block polymer.[1] In the Poloxamer number 184, the first two digits indicate an approximate molecular weight of 1800 for the oil-affine middle portion, while the last digit indicates that the water-affine portion makes up approximately 40%. The water- and oil-affine portions are therefore relatively balanced. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
