About Poloxamer 183
Poloxamer 183 is a block copolymer of polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene.[1] In the name Poloxamer 183, the first two digits indicate an approximate molecular weight of 1800 for the oil-loving middle block, while the last digit indicates a proportion of about 30% for the water-loving portion; the influence of the oil-loving middle block is relatively pronounced. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to lower surface tension so that ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
