Poloxamer 182 is a block copolymer of polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene.[1] In the number 182 assigned to Poloxamer, the first two digits indicate an approximate molecular weight of 1800 for the oil-affine central portion, while the last digit indicates that the water-affine portion accounts for approximately 20%; the influence of the oil-affine central portion is relatively greater. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to lower surface tension so that ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
