About Poloxamer 181
Poloxamer 181 is a polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene block polymer.[1] In the Poloxamer number 181, the first two digits indicate an approximate molecular weight of 1800 for the oil-affine middle section, while the last digit indicates that the water-affine section makes up about 10%; the influence of the oil-affine middle section is relatively pronounced. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
