About Poloxamer 123
Poloxamer 123 is a polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene block copolymer, in which x, y, and z are mainly averages of 7, 21, and 7, respectively.[1] In the number 123 for Poloxamer, the first two digits indicate an approximate molecular weight of 1200 for the oil-affine middle section, while the last digit indicates a proportion of about 30% for the water-affine section. The influence of the oil-affine middle section is relatively pronounced. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to lower surface tension so that raw materials wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
