About Poloxamer 101
Poloxamer 101 is a polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene block polymer in which x, y, and z are each 2, 16, and 2 on average, respectively.[1] In Poloxamer number 101, the first two digits indicate an approximate molecular weight of 1000 for the oil-loving central portion, while the last digit indicates that the water-loving portion accounts for approximately 10%; the effect of the oil-loving central portion is relatively pronounced. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
