About Perlite
Perlite is a chemically inert siliceous mineral composed primarily as follows.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to absorb liquids in a formulation, such as water or oil, and to increase formulation volume and adjust the amount of solids.[3] It is described as a gray crystal with no distinct odor, so in the solid state it is important to first dissolve it or disperse it evenly to prevent clumping in the formulation.[2]
