About PEG/PPG-70/30 Tocopheryl Ether

PEG/PPG-70/30 Tocopheryl Ether is a product formed by reacting tocopherol containing an average of 70 moles of ethylene oxide and 30 moles of propylene oxide.[1] The number 70 after PPG indicates the average number of linked propylene oxide units. Depending on this number and the type of fatty component attached to it, its miscibility with oils and application feel vary. In cosmetics, it is used to help powder ingredients flow evenly without forming lumps, slow the oxidation of formula ingredients caused by reactions with oxygen, and help formula ingredients bind together to maintain their form.[2] It is also used to help prevent oil-in-water mixtures from separating easily, add flexibility so films or polymer layers do not become excessively rigid, and leave the skin feeling soft and smooth.[2] It is used to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly, and to reduce changes to the product and formula ingredients caused by ultraviolet light.[2]
