PEG/PPG-4/12 Dimethicone is an alkoxylated derivative of dimethicone composed of an average of 4 moles of ethylene oxide and 12 moles of propylene oxide.[1] The number 4 after PPG indicates the average number of linked propylene oxide units. Along with the type of fatty component attached to it, this number affects how well it mixes with oils and its feel on application. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed.[2]
