About PEG/PPG-24/18 Butyl Ether Dimethicone
PEG/PPG-24/18 Butyl Ether Dimethicone is the butyl ether of a dimethicone derivative composed of an average of 24 moles of ethylene oxide and 18 moles of propylene oxide.[1] The number 24 after PPG indicates the average number of linked propylene oxide units. Depending on this number and the type of fatty component attached, its miscibility with oils and application feel vary. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities wash away with water, to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly blended, and to reduce hair tangling and roughness for smooth manageability.[2] It is also used to attract moisture to formulations and the skin surface to help maintain hydration, and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
