About PEG/PPG-23/23 Butyl Ether Dimethicone
PEG/PPG-23/23 Butyl Ether Dimethicone is the butyl ether of a dimethicone derivative composed of an average of 23 moles of ethylene oxide and 23 moles of propylene oxide.[1] The number 23 after PPG indicates the average number of linked propylene oxide units. This number and the type of attached fatty component determine how well it mixes with oil and affect its application feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed, reduce tangling and rough feel in hair for smoother conditioning, and draw moisture into the formula and skin surface to help maintain moisturization.[2] It is also used to leave the skin surface feeling soft and smooth and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
