About PEG/PPG-20/22 Methyl Ether Dimethicone

PEG/PPG-20/22 Methyl Ether Dimethicone is the methyl ether of a dimethicone derivative containing an average of 20 moles of ethylene oxide and 22 moles of propylene oxide.[1] The number 20 after PPG indicates the average number of linked propylene oxide units; together with the type of fatty component attached, it affects how well the ingredient mixes with oil and its application feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities rinse away with water, create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and reduce tangling and roughness in hair for smoother grooming.[2] It is also used to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
