About PEG/PPG-16/8 Dimethicone

PEG/PPG-16/8 Dimethicone is an alkoxylated derivative of dimethicone composed of an average of 16 moles of ethylene oxide and 8 moles of propylene oxide.[1] The number 16 after PPG indicates the average number of linked propylene oxide units. Along with the type of fatty component attached, this affects how readily it mixes with oil and the feel during application. In cosmetics, it is used to suppress unwanted foam during manufacturing or use, create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and leave the skin surface feeling soft and smooth.[2]
