PEG-9m is a polymer of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 9 in the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added; with the same base structure, changing this number may also change water miscibility and the formula’s viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to help formula ingredients bind together and maintain their form, keep emulsions of water and oil from separating easily, and adjust the viscosity and flow of the formula.[2]
