About PEG-9 Castor Oil
PEG-9 Castor Oil is a polyethylene glycol derivative of castor oil containing an average of 9 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 9 in the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added; with the same base structure, changing this number may also change water miscibility and the viscosity and spreadability of the formulation. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to reduce surface tension so raw materials can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
