About PEG-800

PEG-800 is a polymer of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 800 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; with the same base structure, changing this number may also change how well it mixes with water and the formula’s viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to help powder ingredients flow evenly without forming lumps, help formula ingredients bind to maintain the formula’s shape, and attract moisture to the formula and skin’s surface to help maintain a moisturized feel.[2] It is also used to add flexibility so films or polymer layers do not become excessively rigid and to adjust the formula’s viscosity and flow.[2]
