About PEG-80 Sorbitan Palmitate
PEG-80 Sorbitan Palmitate is the ethoxylated sorbitan monoester of palmitic acid, with an average of 80 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 80 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; within the same base structure, changing this number may affect water miscibility and the formula’s viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to reduce surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
