PEG-7 Amodimethicone is a polyethylene glycol derivative of amodimethicone containing an average of 7 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 7 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. With the same base structure, changing this number may also change water miscibility and the viscosity and spreadability of the formulation. In cosmetics, it is used to help reduce tangling and rough feel in hair for a smoother finish, and to attract moisture to the formulation and skin’s surface to help maintain moisturization.[2]
