About PEG-6 Dimethicone

PEG-6 Dimethicone is a polyethylene glycol derivative of dimethicone containing an average of 6 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 6 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. With the same base structure, changing this number may alter water miscibility and the formula's viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to attract moisture to the formula and skin surface to help maintain hydration, and to add flexibility so films or polymer layers do not become overly rigid.[2]
