About PEG-5 Pentaerythrityl Dimethylol Propionate-3 Dendrimer
PEG-5 Pentaerythrityl Dimethylol Propionate-3 Dendrimer is a highly branched polymer obtained through successive reactions of 3 moles of dimethylpropionic acid and an ethoxylate of 5 moles of pentaerythritol.[1] The number 5 indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. For the same base structure, changing this number can alter water compatibility and the formulation's viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to absorb liquids such as water or oil in a formulation, help ingredients bind together and maintain the formulation's shape, and keep emulsions of water and oil from separating easily.[2] It is also used to form a thin film on the skin, hair, or nail surface after application and to hold a desired hairstyle in place.[2]
