PEG-5 Lanolin is a polyethylene glycol derivative of lanolin containing an average of 5 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 5 in the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added. Within the same base structure, changing this number may affect water miscibility and the formulation’s viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed.[2]
