About PEG-450
PEG-450 is a polymer of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 450 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; within the same base structure, changing this number can also change water miscibility and the viscosity and spreadability of the formula. In cosmetics, it is used to help formula ingredients bind together and maintain their form, prevent emulsions of water and oil from separating easily, and dissolve other raw materials to create a uniform formula.[2]
