About PEG-45 Stearate

PEG-45 Stearate is the polyethylene glycol ester of stearic acid.[1] The number 45 indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added; with the same base structure, changing this number may affect water miscibility and the viscosity and spreadability of the formulation. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to reduce surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
