About PEG-40 Sorbitan Peroleate
PEG-40 Sorbitan Peroleate is a mixture of sorbitol oleic acid esters condensed with an average of 40 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 40 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. For the same base structure, changing this number may also change the extent to which it mixes with water and the formulation’s viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly blended and to lower surface tension so that raw materials wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
