About PEG-40 Sorbitan Perisostearate

PEG-40 Sorbitan Perisostearate is a mixture of sorbitol condensed with an average of 40 moles of ethylene oxide and isostearic acid.[1] The number 40 indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; within the same base structure, changing this number can alter water dispersibility and the viscosity and spreadability of the formulation. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so raw materials wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
