About PEG-40 Sorbitan Laurate
PEG-40 Sorbitan Laurate is the ethoxylated sorbitan ester of lauric acid containing an average of 40 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 40 in the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added; within the same base structure, changing this number may also change water miscibility and the formula's viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to reduce surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
