About PEG-40 Sorbitan Diisostearate
PEG-40 Sorbitan Diisostearate is an ethoxylated sorbitan diester of isostearic acid, with an average of 40 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 40 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. With the same base structure, changing this number may affect water miscibility and the formula’s viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to reduce surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
