About PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil
PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is a polyethylene glycol derivative of hydrogenated castor oil containing an average of 40 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 40 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; with the same base structure, changing this number may also change water miscibility and the formula’s viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to create an emulsion in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
