About PEG-40 Castor Oil
PEG-40 Castor Oil is a polyethylene glycol derivative of castor oil containing an average of 40 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 40 in the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added; within the same base structure, changing this number may also change water miscibility and the formulation’s viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly blended, and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
