About PEG-4 Distearyl Ether
PEG-4 Distearyl Ether is a polyethylene glycol ether of stearyl alcohol.[1] The number 4 in the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added. Within the same base structure, changing this number can affect water miscibility as well as the viscosity and spreadability of the formulation. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce tangling and rough feel in hair for smoother conditioning, reduce light transmission so the contents appear less translucent, and add flexibility so films or polymer layers do not become excessively rigid.[2] It is also used to leave the skin surface feeling soft and smooth.[2]
