PEG-30 Lanolin is a polyethylene glycol derivative of lanolin with an average of 30 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 30 indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added; within the same base structure, changing this number can alter water miscibility and the formulation's viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
