PEG-2m is a polymer of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 2 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. With the same base structure, changes in this number may affect water miscibility as well as the viscosity and spreadability of the formulation. In cosmetics, it is used to help formulation ingredients bind together and maintain their form, prevent water-and-oil emulsions from separating readily, and control the formulation's viscosity and flow.[2]
