About PEG-25 Stearate

PEG-25 Stearate is the polyethylene glycol ester of stearic acid.[1] The number 25 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. With the same base structure, changing this number may also change water compatibility, viscosity, and spreadability of the formula. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
